WSIP Academic Writing in the Borderlands Program - Start Date
Are you an undergraduate or graduate student? Interested in developing your writing skills?
The Writing Skills Improvement Program (WSIP) is accepting undergraduate and graduate student applications for the 2025 Academic Writing in the Borderlands Program.
The Writing Skills Improvement Program (WSIP) is an online academic writing program starting January 6th throught January 10th with two monthly meetings between February and April. The goal of WSIP is to help students develop deeper thinking skills about their research and writing processes and accountability to the communities affected by their positionalities. Students will learn to think beyond writing conventions to consider how issues of diversity, social justice, integrity, equity, and responsibility manifest in writing. These skills promote the development of research and writing practices that support the U of A’s commitment to inclusive excellence. Borderlands supports students’ awareness of themselves as scholars whose research and writing are shaped by their positionalities as students in the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands.
What are the benefits?
- Workshops
- Writing Sessions
- Customized individual tutoring
The workshops will focus on issues related to academic writing in the Borderlands. The writing session will provide facilitated time to work on writing projects. During individual tutoring sessions, there are opportunities to discuss your writing and/or your writing questions and concerns with a writing specialist. Each month, participants of the Borderlands 2025 cohort will reconvene for a group writing session. We'll begin with a mini-workshop followed by dedicated writing time. Additionally, the program will host a separate monthly panel presentation for the cohort to learn more about Borderlands writing perspectives.
Cost: $250 for U of A students; $320 for non-U of A students
