Undergraduate Research

About Us

Change is coming!

With the opening of the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholar Development in January 2025, the collaborative efforts to promote and grow undergraduate research experiences are gaining new allies and resources on campus.  Stay tuned for an update on our collective efforts at the University of Arizona to promote, expand, and provide transformative research experiences for all Arizona students in any field of study.

Collaborative efforts to support undergraduate research programming

From 2021-2025, the Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Collaborative (URIC) at the University of Arizona brought together centralized resources to expand access to undergraduate research & inquiry, to coordinate outreach and support, to showcase undergraduate research talent, to provide training, and to enhance the quality of the undergraduate research & inquiry experience with a focus on inclusion for students in any field of study and cultivating success for all students. The Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Collaborative included the Office of Societal Impact (OSI) under Research, Innovation, and Impact (RII) and Student Engagement and Career Development (SECD) under the Office of the Provost.

With the opening of the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholar Development under the Provost's Office in January 2025, the majority of promotional and support efforts for undergraduate research moved into this new space, effectively transformation the URIC into something new.  The work as described on this page continues with a collective effort between OSI and URSD, with SECD continuing their promotion and hands-on support with students seeking opportunities to engage in research.

What do we offer?

Undergraduate Research at the University of Arizona offers support to undergraduate students wanting to become involved in undergraduate research & inquiry and develop their research skills. Additionally, we gather input on the needs of the undergraduate research community, maintain the undergraduate research website, consult with researchers on incorporating undergraduate research into grant proposals, and provide professional development opportunities to faculty and other researchers on increasing experiences in undergraduate research and inquiry by scaffolding research into the curriculum, such as through Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) and Vertically Integrated Projects (VIPs)

In the future, we plan to track the number of undergraduates participating in activities related to research and inquiry; to provide inclusive mentor trainings to research mentors; and to provide funding for undergraduate research projects and conference travel.
