Job Description: 

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholar Development (URSD) at the University of Arizona seeks applicants to join a team of Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URAs) to help promote and communicate the importance, availability and impact of undergraduate research experiences to University of Arizona students. URAs will present information about undergraduate research opportunities to classes, clubs, and organizations on and off campus and will provide personalized, one-on-one support to students who seek help finding and applying for research experience. Research Ambassadors help communicate undergraduate research experiences and the skills required to obtain those experiences through social media and online content, including creating graphics, short videos, and other engaging materials. URAs research opportunities on- and off-campus, create social media content, graphics, and informational videos, edit the Research Experiences page on career.arizona.edu and the  undergraduate research website at ur.arizona.edu, and communicate with and collect data with UAZ students, faculty, and staff. URAs may interview, photograph, and promote student and faculty research activities, and perform other duties of outreach and program promotion as assigned.  

We seek applications from undergraduate students with research experience in ANY field – literature, art, social sciences, mathematics, life sciences, astronomy, etc.  We strive for a diverse team, and particularly look for second- and third-year students interested in the opportunity to grow into a lead URA role in future semesters. Our needs to form a team with diverse skill sets allow URA team members to focus on the aspects of this work that interests them most.  

For our 2025-2026 team, we have a particular need for team members who can fill the following team positions (one person per skill need, plus we are hiring additional team members as well!): 

  • Experienced in research and majoring in a non-STEM field
  • Strong writing and editing skills and an interest in research communication and / or  journalism.
  • Experience conducting research as an Honors College Student and an interest in serving as an Honor’s College liaison 

Don’t meet these specific categories? No worries! We are hiring multiple positions and seek students who are passionate and interested in helping others and willing to learn!  All URAs should be prepared to meet 1:1 with students seeking help, respond to email queries, attend tabling events, and present prepared information in front of a group.

Duties (shared among all URA team members): 

  • Hold information sessions about undergraduate research opportunities for classes, campus groups, and other organizations 
  • Present information about undergraduate research opportunities at recruitment and orientation events
  • Write and produce social media and other promotional content. (Instagram, YouTube, weekly email lists, etc.)
  • Read, delegate, and/or respond to emails into the Undergraduate Research inbox.
  • Be present at promotional and recruitment events -- meet your major fair, Wildcat Welcome events, career days, departmental events, etc.
  • Recruit volunteers to share testimonials and research experience generate promotional and social media content.   
  • Help brainstorm and plan aspects of UR projects and promotional activities.
  • Contribute to data collection for URA program evaluation. 
  • Other duties as assigned related to outreach, creation, and promotion of undergraduate research programs on campus. 

     

Required qualification for the Honors liaison position: 

To be considered for the URA position serving as the liaison to the Franke Honors College, candidates must be currently active honors students and maintain honors status throughout their employment.  

Preferred qualification for all positions: 

Federal Work-Study funding is preferred but not a requirement to apply. If you have received a Federal Work-Study award for the 2025-2026 academic year, please share your funding status in your application documents.

      2. If you are interested in working as a Franke Honors liaison URA, what unique experiences (e.g. Quest, Exploratory Mini Grant, Pinnacle) and/or perspectives do you have that would make working with Franke Honors students a good fit?

(Please note that the responses to the questions above are to help determine team placement and fit for next year's scheduling needs.  We seek a variety of skills and backgrounds for a number of positions. There are no right or wrong answers!)

  • In-person trainings for new URAs and participation in on-campus orientation events will take place the week of August 18
