Interested in experiencing research abroad?
The Biology Research Abroad: Vistas Open! (BRAVO!) program is seeking students for Summer 2026
You are gaining a lot of experience conducting research here at the University of Arizona… but have you ever thought about taking a step further to conduct research internationally? Consider BRAVO!, the University of Arizona’s Biology Research Abroad: Vistas Open! Program!
In a nutshell, BRAVO! is a summer research program which funds proposals from UA undergraduates to conduct research abroad with an international collaborator of their current UA research mentor for 10-12 weeks during the summer. This experience serves to further ongoing collaboration between your mentor’s research group and their foreign colleague, promote progress on a specific project, and/or facilitate the exchange of best practices and techniques, while providing a unique opportunity for you to grow scientifically and culturally through immersion in the global scientific community.
If you didn’t think it possible to pursue an opportunity abroad due to limitations in funding or lack of experience in international travel, think again! BRAVO! provides full financial support up to $8,000 for the summer abroad, which typically covers all costs for airfare, lodging, food, passport and visa fees, research supplies, and other travel-related expenses. Students who are financially challenged (i.e. eligible for the Pell Grant or federal work-study) may also request a stipend. The BRAVO! Director will assist all BRAVO! participants in preparing for and navigating through their international experiences.
Please visit the BRAVO! website for more information. Don’t wait! The Stage One BRAVO! application for Summer 2026 is due September 15, 2025. If you have any questions about BRAVO!, please contact Jennifer Cubeta, UBRP/BRAVO! Director, at cubeta@arizona.edu.
