2024 Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch Undergraduate Fellowship Program - Application Deadline

Are you an Animal Sciences, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Life & Environmental Sciences, or other-related major? Still searching for a summer research experience?

The National Audubon Society at Southwest announced that the 2024 Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch (AWRR) Research Fellowships are OPEN for applications from highly motivated undergraduate students! They seek science-based solutions to the biggest threats facing the region’s birds, other wildlife, habitats, and communities. They need sound science to tell us what birds need, and they believe that securing conservation wins tomorrow depends on fostering a young, diverse cohort of aspiring scientists today through their annual research fellowship.

Through this program, they offer support to young scientists embarking on research, which includes, but is not limited to: Grassland conservation, Arizona Species of Greatest Conservation Need, Ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation, Natural history at any scale, The impacts of climate change and aridification, and Community engagement in science and conservation.

What are the benefits?

  • $1000 Cash award: for any research-related expenses; gear, books, travel, conferences, etc.
  • $500 Housing voucher: for stays at the AWRR (supports housing and use of lab space for 1 person for about two weeks)
  • Opportunities to broadcast their work: through Audubon communications outlets including Audubon websites, newsletters, social media, and more
