The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Consortium (UROC) provides participants with 10 weeks of excellent research training and graduate school preparation in a diverse range of fields, such as medicine, engineering, biology, and much more!
What summer programs are available at UROC?
UROC program do not require a letter of recommendation or any prior research experience. All undergraduate students, whether or not you attend the University of Arizona, are welcome to apply to the following programs listed below:
- Summer Research Institute (SRI): SRI offers opportunities for students to collaborate with a cohort and an assigned mentor consisting of an interdisciplinary array of majors and research fields. This program is open to juniors and seniors of all disciplines, including social sciences, humanities, and STEM. Applicants should be interested in completing a master's or PhD. The application deadline of SRI is on February 1st, 2024, 5:00 PM AZ Time. For specific questions about SRI, please reach out to Tianna MacMeans at turrea@arizona.edu.
- Minimizing Health Disparities (MHD): MHD focuses on health issues that affect minority communities in a disproportionate manner, where the participant will be able to conduct research with a professor apart of the biomedical field at a state-of-the-art facility. MHD is open to both juniors or seniors in biomedical majors that are interested in pursuing a PhD. The application deadline of MHD is on February 1st, 2024, 5:00 PM AZ Time. For specific questions about MHD, please reach out to Tianna MacMeans at turrea@arizona.edu.
- Biosphere 2 REU: This REU program provides a team of 10 undergraduates an opportunity to conduct guided research in environmental and Earth systems science at a leading and unique research institution. By using a multidisciplinary approach (involving disciplines such as hydrology, geology, geochemistry, ecology, biology, physics, engineering, and atmospheric sciences) research teams focus on understanding how earth systems respond to environmental change. Open to freshman, sophomores, and juniors. The application deadline of Biosphere 2 REU is on March 1st, 2024, 5:00 PM AZ Time. For specific questions about Biosphere 2 REU, please reach out to Dr. Dontsova at dontsova@arizona.edu
- ECE-CAT Vehicle REU: This REU program funds a team of 10 undergraduate students to participate in an immersive research experience, sitting side-by-side with graduate researchers and working on one of the most compelling and complex applications of today: autonomous systems and other components of autonomous ground vehicles. Open to juniors and seniors. The application deadline of ECE-CAT Vehicle REU is on February 15th, 2024, 5:00 PM AZ Time.
