During this two hour long session, you'll hear from fellow faculty members on their current efforts to incorporate authentic research experiences into courses utilizing a scaffolded approaches, data science, and citizen science projects.

Presenters:
Dr. Molly Bolger
Dr. Molly Bolger is an Associate Professor in Molecular Biology. Her research focuses on curricular design and student learning in biology. Recent projects have included designing an introductory biology laboratory curriculum and investigating how authentic, model-based inquiry within the curriculum supports students’ scientific agency and skills.
Dr. Deirdre Belle-Oudry
Deirdre Belle-Oudry is Director of Academic Services, and a Sr. Lecturer in Chemistry. She teaches Instrumental Analysis Lab and a Chemical Safety course. She have been in the Department for 15 years, most of that time managing teaching laboratories.
Dr. Jeffrey Oliver
Jeff Oliver is the Data Science Specialist at the University Libraries, supporting data literacy across campus. He provides data science training to students and researchers in order for them to effectively capitalize on the big data revolution.
Dr. Kathleen Prudic
Katy Prudic is faculty in the Department of Entomology with research interests in big data and conservation. She runs a citizen science web platform, eButterfly, which gathers data from butterfly enthusiasts to understand how climate change is impacting butterfly survival and distributions.
