From Classroom to Conference: An Undergraduate Research Experience in Tokyo, Japan
Presenting alongside scientists pushing the boundaries at the Cell Transplant & Regenerative Medicine Society (CTRMS) conference allowed Hannah Hagen to witness humanity behind the science.
Despite moments of nervousness at the podium, Hannah’s presentation was well received, and she was met with encouragement. This experience became a meaningful lesson in science communication that she believes has strengthened her public-speaking skills and deepened her commitment to sharing science with others. It reinforced the idea that growth often occurs during moments of discomfort and challenge.
Beyond presenting, CTRMS 2025 further fueled Hannah’s excitement for learning. Recognizing pathways and mechanisms from coursework applied in real research was especially rewarding, and witnessing the multidisciplinary nature of the science made classroom concepts feel tangible and relevant. Bringing these insights back to share with professors and classmates contributed to a renewed academic enthusiasm.
From all of us in the Office of Undergraduate Research, we applaud your courage and thoughtful reflection on this experience. We look forward to witnessing your continued growth!
