The Research Experience For Undergraduates at the University of Southern Mississippi's School of Polymer Science and Engineering is seeking undergraduate students to participate in polymer material research.
The Research Experience For Undergraduates Program is a National Science Foundation initiative which gives 10 undergraduate students from all over the United States the opportunity to engage in 10 weeks of cutting edge research in sustainable polymer engineering at University of Southern Mississippi from May 27th, 2025-August 1st, 2025. Students will participate in fundamental polymer materials research that is aimed at providing innovative solutions to meet societal needs in a sustainable fashion, designing for recyclability and degradability, utilizing renewable feedstocks, and developing materials for sustainable energy and water purification. They will build interdisciplinary communication skills through participative workshops and outreach activities in the community, be exposed to materials manufacturing challenges through interaction with local polymer businesses, and gain appreciation for the environmental impact of materials through lectures, field trips and literature review. Students are granted stipends and assistance with housing and travel.

- US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Current undergraduate student
- Community College student eligible
*Areas of Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Biology are preferred.
*Sophomores and Juniors preferred
