Job Description:

The Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Collaborative (URIC)  at the University of Arizona seeks applicants to join a team of Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URAs) to help promote and communicate the importance, availability and impact of undergraduate research experiences to Arizona students. URAs will present information about undergraduate research opportunities to classes, clubs, and organizations on and off campus. Research Ambassadors will provide personalized, one-on-one support to students who seek help finding and applying for research experience.  Research Ambassadors help communicate undergraduate research experiences and the skills required to obtain those experiences through social media and online content, including creating graphics, short videos, and other engaging materials. URAs research opportunities on- and off-campus, create social media content, graphics, and informational videos, edit the SECD and undergraduate research websites, and communicate with and collect data with UAZ students, faculty, and staff. URAs may interview, photograph, and promote student and faculty research activities, and perform other duties of outreach and program promotion as assigned. Research Ambassadors will co-train and co-collaborate with other peer mentors in Student Engagement & Career Development (SECD), and help direct students to other SECD services as appropriate. 

 

We seek applications from undergraduate students with research experience in ANY field – literature, art, social sciences, mathematics, life sciences, astronomy, etc.  We strive for a diverse team, and particularly look for second- and third-year students interested in the opportunity to grow into a lead URA role in future semesters. Our diverse skills needs allow URA team members to focus on the aspects of this work that interests them most. For our 2024-2025 team, we seek at least one student with writing and editing skills in research communication, and at least one student with graphic / web design skills to create social media and website content. Don’t have these skills? We also seek students who are passionate and interested in helping others and willing to learn!  All URAs should be prepared to meet 1:1 with students seeking help, respond to email queries, attend tabling events, and present prepared information in front of a group.  

Duties (shared among all URA team members): 

  • Hold information sessions about undergraduate research opportunities for classes, campus groups, and other organizations  

  • Present information about undergraduate research opportunities at recruitment and orientation events 

  • Write and produce social media and other promotional content. (Instagram, YouTube, weekly email lists, etc.) 

  • Read, delegate, and/or respond to URIC emails. 

  • Be present at promotional and recruitment events -- meet your major fair, career days, departmental events, etc. 

  • Recruit volunteers to share testimonials and research experience generate promotional and social media content.   

  • Work with staff and student employees in LifeLab to share and promote research opportunities. 

  • Help brainstorm and plan aspects of UR projects and promotional activities. 

  • Contribute to data collection for URA program evaluation. 

  • Other duties as assigned related to outreach, creation, and promotion of undergraduate research programs on campus. 

 

Required qualification: 

  • The URA team is currently ONLY hiring students who qualify for Federal Work-Study aid. 

 

Hiring timetable 

  • Application review will begin on July 31 

  • Remote interviews will begin on August 1 

  • Anticipated hire date: August 12 

  • New URA training will take place the week of August 19
