Are you a sophomore or junior who is planning on obtaining a PhD?
The McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is looking for sophmores to apply to their two year prepratory program for graduate school.
The Ronald E. McNair Achievement Program is a federal TRIO program that is designed to support visionary first-generation and Low-income (FGLI) or Underrepresented students to thrive in graduate school through transformative mentorship, rigorous academic support, and academic research experience. McNair is primarily a two-year program for sophomores with a one-year option for exceptional juniors. As an interdisciplinary program, McNair Scholars have the opportunity to have their research abstracts published in the UROC Abstract Review, practice speaking about their research to people with various levels of experience, and develop academic connections with people outside of their majors.
This program is intended for students pursuing PhD programs.

Who is eligible to apply?
- Full-time U of A (Main Campus) student.
- US citizen, permanent legal resident, or has demonstrated their intention to become a permanent resident of the US.
- A first-generation college student who meets federal low-income guidelines (FGLI) and/or is underrepresented in graduate education.
- Junior standing by the end of the upcoming spring semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Strong desire to pursue a doctoral degree
- Committed to earning a PhD (students interested primarily in a professional degree like JD, MD, DVM, MFA, etc. are ineligible for the McNair program)
